Forrestburn Track Night 20 May 2015

Forrestburn Track Night 20 May 2015

Forrestburn Track Night - 20 May 2015
We had a great track night at Forrestburn on 20 May 2015. The weather was good and with entries limited to 20, everyone was able to have multiple runs on the hill. Entrants took turns at marshalling the various posts and all the cars went home in one piece! Quite a number of spectators also turned up and there was good banter around the paddock. Thanks are due to Jamie and Shonah for organising and running the event.

Here’s a photogallery of the track night from Donald and Trish MacDonald.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

Forrestburn International Circuit - Jaguar E-Type, Silverstone, 1996
A very Happy New Year to everyone. We have published our Calendar of Events for 2015 which you can study with awe and respect. The results for 2014 are still available of course and you can see these in the right hand sidebar of the Events Page. There will probably be more events added, such as Track Nights at Knockhill and some minor alterations to dates as the season progresses but the main events such as Hill Climb dates are fixed.

It is exactly a month till the first event of the year which is the MSCC Annual General Meeting. Two months from today will be the first motor sport event of the year at Forrestburn – a Production Car Trial on 1 March. Terrible isn’t it?

In case you are wondering, the image at the top of the page is of a Jaguar E-Type specially prepared in the graphics intended for the Forrestburn International Circuit which in 1996 had full planning permission and EU grant funding. Some people in the Club still have an interest in developing Forrestburn through smaller additions over time such as an extension to the hill climb track to include a sprint track or kart circuit. If you are interested and think you can help in some way – financial, construction, legal, planning, grant aid etc – please get in touch.

Meanwhile enjoy 2015’s MSCC motor sport programme, if you are not a member already please think about signing up and if you are a member please renew in the next few days. Thanks.

End of Season Trackday

End of Season Trackday

P1011087wOn a glorious afternoon, the end of season track day on 21/09/14 attracted the usual enthusiastic entrants plus some new faces and some different cars.

In a new twist (and many turns), a non-competitive auto test was available for anyone wanting to try something different while taking a break from running up the hill. As always in auto testing, it appeared that the machinery was willing but the memory was weak and it took a number of tries for entrants to follow the correct route, generating much hilarity for, and jocular verbal abuse from the onlookers. The irrepressible Scott Clements again tried unsuccessfully to launch the Clan’s pistons into the stratosphere with his own exuberant style and liberal interpretation of the test route. The four-wheel steering on the Honda Prelude was a definite asset and enabled the big car to demonstrate surprising manoeuvrability.

Everyone who tried the test finished with a big grin on their face and we hope that next year, there will be some new entrants for the club auto tests.

Thanks to Donald for the text and Trish for the photos.

Forrestburn Track Night – August 2014

Forrestburn Track Night – August 2014

a sense of anticipation as track-nighters wait near the start line at Forrestburn Speed Hill Climb
Here’s a post from Malcolm Malky McDonald describing his first trip to Forrestburn – thanks Malky!

Our first ever visit to Forrestburn started earlier than we’d anticipated when we left Kintyre, in Argyll, just after 1pm. We had to take a not-so-quick detour via Stirling to get a front brake caliper swapped over after snapping off the bleed nipple the previous day. Whoever said this was cheap way of entering motor sport does not live more than 100 miles from a motor factors! Anyway, despite the diversion, we managed to arrive just about the same time as everyone else.

The good weather had brought out plenty of drivers for the fun night and we were raring to go in our Peugeot 106 Rallye. A few minutes form filling at HQ and then a quick drivers briefing and we were ready to join the queue at the bottom of the hill. With there being two of us sharing the one car we’d decided that I (Malcolm) run the car first before handing over to John for the second stint. Unfortunately my first time on the hill was marred by an overheating engine – courtesy of a failed radiator fan – which made my first run a bit of a Sunday drive! Still I was able to get an idea of the track layout ready for (hopefully) faster subsequent runs. The corners were a bit tighter than I expected and the blind brows certainly make for an interesting drive! By the time my stint with the car was up, I was really enjoying the flow of the track and didn’t really want to hand over to John!

After refuelling (burgers cooked on the BBQ), I did a bit of spectating at the top of the hill where I spoke to a number of people. Everyone was really friendly and interested in our car, the distance we’d travelled and how we’d got on. It’s a standing joke where we come from that no matter where you go in the world, you’ll always meet someone else from Argyll and this time was no exception. A Mini, all the way from mid-Argyll (just 45 minutes closer to Forrestburn than us) looked very promising.

We’ve entered for the Hill Climb this weekend and are really looking forward to getting the car on the hill, and of course, meeting up with everyone again.

Thanks to Trish and Donald McDonald we have a nice gallery below of images from the Track Night.

Also, if anyone feels like turning their hand to a bit of journalism a nice wee report on the evening’s proceedings would be fab….and some kind of reward might be arranged. 300-400 words would be ideal.
