Le Jog visited Loch Lomond Shores on Monday 9 December 2019 where competitors tackled an autotest. This was ably marshalled by Sarah Selman, Lorraine Noble-Thomson, Tony Smith and Derek House from Monklands Sporting Car Club and supported by marshals from Scottish Sporting Car Club. After some horrendous weather the previous day, we were very lucky to have blue skies for the test. Out of the 83 cars that started at Lands End, 64 attempted the test in cars ranging from a 1928 Dodge Senior Six to a much more modern 1988 Volkswagen Golf GTi.

This year sees the Silver Jubilee running of LE JOG and that means a very special, traditional (and, as always, tough) event is in store. The 25th running will pay homage to the original 1993 event and include numerous locations which have not been visited recently, together with one or two completely new roads and venues. You can get a flavour of the event from the Le Jog website at https://heroevents.eu/event-schedule/le-jog-2019/
Le Jog will not be visiting Forrestburn this year, but Alistair Reid is running a test at Lomond Shores Retail Park on Monday 9 December. The car park will be the overspill car park which is on the right as you enter the retail park. You would need to be there for about 10:30 so that he can get everyone signed on (times are subject to change). The scheduled finish time is 14:08. As ever, the event attracts some amazing cars and you can see the current entry list on the Hero Events website.
If anyone can help with marshalling please email Alistair.j.reid@hotmail.co.uk or telephone/text 07555 510306.
There’s a fabulous event coming up in a couple of weeks which you simply have to attend so get your entries in now. The Grass Autotest at Coulter near Biggar has been running for a few years now and last year the event was recorded by MSCC’s answer to Alfred Hitchcock – Alastair Reynolds. You can see the video here but I strongly advise you to keep the volume low as Jincheng Zhang’s heavy metal soundtrack is a little sore on the ears.
As you can see, this is very much a family day out in very pleasant surroundings as well as a motorsport event. If you entered last year, it’s a chance to improve your score. If you haven’t tried it before why not enter and test your driving skills against the usual suspects.
You can download the entry form here. We really need a minimum of 15 entries for this so please enter now for a great day out – hey the weather might even be good. The event venue is off Birthwood Road and will be signposted at the A702 turnoff. NB – no barbecue, unfortunately.
Please notes that this event has been cancelled due to lack of interest
Monklands Sporting Car Club will organise a Clubmans Event on Sunday 12 May 2019, at Forrestburn. The event is open to all fully elected members of Monklands Sporting Car Club, MG Car Club, Morgan Sports Car Club, and Bentley Drivers Club.
For those of you who have attended before, we have carried out a site inspection and may not hold this in the usual autotest area of Forrestburn. However, as you will know MSCC Forrestburn is large and there are plenty of areas, both grass and tarmac, where we can hold an autotest so this should go ahead but as always this is subject to receiving sufficient entries.
Please also let us know if you plan to marshal. Hope lots of you can make it this year and we hope to see some new faces too. Oh and this is not a catered event so please bring your own food!
Our very own Alfred Hitchcock, aka Alastair Reynolds, put together this amazing video of today’s happenings at Coulter. As the camera doesn’t lie, this must be a fair representation of the event. I hope that the heavy rock soundtrack was added later. Not exactly pastoral but never mind.
A few brave souls endured a typical Scottish Summer day on 25 July during the annual Grass Autotest at Coulter. The rain started at the same time as the competitive runs and continued for the duration of the event and in addition to the usual memory test, the event became a test of finding traction and spin-avoidance. The photogallery below gives some indication of what took place. Unfortunately, we still don’t have any results but will post them as soon as we get them.
