Here’s something new. On Thursday 17 May, Forrestburn hosted a film crew from the United States. They were the media journalists for Motor Trend one of the largest motoring video magazines in the US. They were testing the new Aston Martin Vantage and Audi R8 V10. It was an all-day session and they picked Forrestburn Speed Hill Climb as they were impressed by the challenging nature of the venue and its idyllic setting.
Gordon opened the gates for them in the morning, albeit a bit delayed as both cars suffered punctures en route. Shonah and I arrived at 19.00 to close up but filming was still going on. Giving us time to check out the cars at close quarters. The drivers were Johnny Liebermann and Jethro Bovingdon who had just returned from the Nurburgring 24-hour race.
This is a great bit of publicity for MSCC and they are keen to return at some point. We look forward to seeing the video.
Not quite, but the weather was sufficiently traditional Forrestburn to deter a number of entrants from turning up. Those who did brave the conditions were rewarded with constant access to the track although it was extremely slippy, to begin with.
Fortunately, there were no major incidents although a number of participants came close to sampling the gravel traps.
This was the last track event of the 2017 season and thanks are due to Jamie and Shonah for their dedication in organising, opening/closing the site, marshalling and along with Marion, providing warm drinks and snacks in what was generally inclement weather.
Thanks are also due to all participants who uncomplainingly took turns to marshall in all weathers and to those participants who brought along additional sustenance to be shared by all present.
Many of the cars which have taken part in the season’s track days would be perfectly suitable for the Trials season which starts on October 8th so why not come along and experience a fun, non-damaging, alternative motorsport discipline?

On the continuing theme of ‘Keep off the Grass‘, this is Brian Wilson at Forrestburn on 26 August 2017 in car number 7 exiting Boulders and, in his own words, “A slight moment where I carried just too much speed into the corner“. See what happened next (images captured by photographer Brian Barr):
Donald MacDonald reports: After a sluggish start which saw only six or so cars on site at the official start time, the paddock rapidly filled up with a good mix of regulars and newcomers. The weather remained dry for the duration and there was still a queue of ten cars at the start line well after 8.00pm.
On this occasion there was even a “For Sale” section in the paddock and participants could choose between an Audi R8 at just under £50k or a Honda Civic Type R at ‘P.O.A.’
Some of the hillclimb regulars were spotted snooping around the paddock, probably sizing up the possible competition, no names, no pack drill but they definitely included a Rotary member!
As ever, Trish and Donald MacDonald were at the season warm-up at Forrestburn. Their report is brief and to the point – the photographs are much appreciated:
“A few new faces and the “regulars” turned out for the Season Opener at Forrestburn on Sunday. The weather was typically Baltic but it managed to stay dry for the duration of the event. Some different cars were seen tackling the hill and all seemed to go home in one piece. As always, the craic was good.”
The Supplementary Regulations and Entry Forms are now available for the August 2016 events which will consist of a double-header on 27-28 August 2016. We are now taking entries for this events and the details of how to enter are on our events page and here.
We really would appreciate it if everyone used our online entry system as it cuts down the amount of work we have to do in organising the event. It takes a lot of time and effort to type sometimes barely legible hand written entries into the system – you know who you are.
You can enter these hill climb events from the marvellous online system which you can access from here. We have retained the option to download the form as a PDF, print it, fill it in with a Biro and send it back to Marion in the time-honoured manner. You also have the option to fill in the PDF digitally on your computer then print it and send it to Marion with your cheque.
We are looking for a record entry this time so get clicking!
