Forrestburn Track Night - 20 May 2015
We had a great track night at Forrestburn on 20 May 2015. The weather was good and with entries limited to 20, everyone was able to have multiple runs on the hill. Entrants took turns at marshalling the various posts and all the cars went home in one piece! Quite a number of spectators also turned up and there was good banter around the paddock. Thanks are due to Jamie and Shonah for organising and running the event.

Here’s a photogallery of the track night from Donald and Trish MacDonald.

Forrestburn Track Night – August 2014

a sense of anticipation as track-nighters wait near the start line at Forrestburn Speed Hill Climb
Here’s a post from Malcolm Malky McDonald describing his first trip to Forrestburn – thanks Malky!

Our first ever visit to Forrestburn started earlier than we’d anticipated when we left Kintyre, in Argyll, just after 1pm. We had to take a not-so-quick detour via Stirling to get a front brake caliper swapped over after snapping off the bleed nipple the previous day. Whoever said this was cheap way of entering motor sport does not live more than 100 miles from a motor factors! Anyway, despite the diversion, we managed to arrive just about the same time as everyone else.

The good weather had brought out plenty of drivers for the fun night and we were raring to go in our Peugeot 106 Rallye. A few minutes form filling at HQ and then a quick drivers briefing and we were ready to join the queue at the bottom of the hill. With there being two of us sharing the one car we’d decided that I (Malcolm) run the car first before handing over to John for the second stint. Unfortunately my first time on the hill was marred by an overheating engine – courtesy of a failed radiator fan – which made my first run a bit of a Sunday drive! Still I was able to get an idea of the track layout ready for (hopefully) faster subsequent runs. The corners were a bit tighter than I expected and the blind brows certainly make for an interesting drive! By the time my stint with the car was up, I was really enjoying the flow of the track and didn’t really want to hand over to John!

After refuelling (burgers cooked on the BBQ), I did a bit of spectating at the top of the hill where I spoke to a number of people. Everyone was really friendly and interested in our car, the distance we’d travelled and how we’d got on. It’s a standing joke where we come from that no matter where you go in the world, you’ll always meet someone else from Argyll and this time was no exception. A Mini, all the way from mid-Argyll (just 45 minutes closer to Forrestburn than us) looked very promising.

We’ve entered for the Hill Climb this weekend and are really looking forward to getting the car on the hill, and of course, meeting up with everyone again.

Thanks to Trish and Donald McDonald we have a nice gallery below of images from the Track Night.

Track Night – 12 June 2014

Colin-Tullis-glad-to-be-back-on-the-track-complete-with-a-new-engine12 June saw another one of our ever popular track nights. This time we had 22 cars and 4 new members who all seemed to have a good evening. The selection of cars gets better every month, this time we had a guided missile otherwise known as a Noble M12 and the delightful Terrapin MK.1 along with a Cooper sports owned coincidently by Stephen Cooper which he was giving a shake down for racing next weekend.

Donald and Trish McDonald had some fun in their latest acquisition a Subaru BRZ and I’m sure that Donald will really put it through its paces at the hill climb. I must say that for someone who had never driven up the hill before Mark Robertson really made me double take when I went up to the top to take few pictures. The first car to come round was an Elise with its tail out, very enjoyable viewing, can only imagine how he will deal with the hill when he has been round a few more times.

It was good to see Colin Tullis back on the black stuff with the Vortex, another man who knows how to have fun! Robert Cockling was let loose again in Mrs Cockling’s car and it had a slight mishap again. Thanks for the biscuits Robert, hope Mrs C has forgiven you.

All in all it was a very enjoyable night all round, so much so that the 8.50 finish went on until after 9.00. The marshalling sheet was filled out with no problem which makes it fair for everyone. The people who must be thanked are the people who came to the work party prior to the track night. If the work didn’t get done then the events could not take place – thanks guys. As always the Barbie was there for members use with tea and coffee available. Next event is the hill climb on the 28-29 June and as always marshals are needed, so if you feel you can help out please contact either Marion or myself and I’m sure we will be able to find a pair of overalls to fit. After that it’s the 8 July for the next track night so get it pencilled in your diary and will see you then.

Derek Bremner's Hillman Imp at the start line at Forrestburn Track Night - 21 May 2014
Before I tell you about the fun we had on Wednesday at Forrestburn I must apologise for the slip-up regarding the reminder e-mail that everyone receives prior to a track night. My lap top for some reason will not sent to the members’ addresses and had Derek House not come to the rescue at the last minute no mail would have gone out. I will, next time, make sure you are reminded at least a week before – promise.
decisions, decisions - which one to take?
For the 12 drivers who did manage to come it was a lovely night with a good variety of cars from a single-seater to a Hillman Imp. I’m sure you will agree that is what you call a broad spectrum. The single seater in the form of Russell Macfarlane’s Nemesis was not playing the game as the throttle was sticking which only allowed him to have one run. The Imp was in the hands of Derek Bremner who will be competing in his first event later in the year and we look forward to seeing him at our hill climb which I understand both he and his dad Rob will be entering.

Alastair Reynolds was having his usual fun with the Westfield and was more than pleased to take new member Robert Davey up the hill for an initiation run. Robert had brought his lovely Lotus Elise which he has just owned for three weeks and was obviously enjoying the evening.

Jamie organised the marshalling and as always the super dependable Trish and Donald were marshalling all evening – thanks guys and also thanks for the photos. Laura Ralton was the sole lady driver in her Corolla scrubbing in her new tyres for Fintry hill climb. Tom Marr was in a BMW 328 rather than the usual MG Midget but this didn’t stop him from really getting round the hairpin with the Beemer on its ear.

Robert Cockling was going to have to go home and tell his wife that her car had a slight problem, and they talk about women drivers!!!!!! – only kidding Robert and thanks for the biscuits. Every time I see the Porsche 944 arriving I think that it’s Colin Rushford but Colin now has a Citroen Xsara and Alan Gow has the Porsche, I’ll get it right someday. Both drivers had fun which is what it’s all about.

The next track night is on 12 June 2014 but don’t worry this time – you will get your reminder.

Memories of a Forrestburn Track Night

Memories of a Forrestburn Track Night

Morgan at the Forrestburn HairpinA certain member of MSCC was supposed to write a few words on the great Track Night (Track Night – not Fun Night I’ve been told) held at Forrestburn on 9 July 2013. He hasn’t so I will put something together – even though I wasn’t there.

Apparently people turned up at 6:30 pm, they paid money, they signed on as marshals and/or as drivers, they put their helmets on and drove round in circles for two and a half hours then they went home. That’s about it really. It’s amazing what people will do to entertain themselves.

Trish and Donald organised some great photos of the cars. It was a good night – so polish your helmets for the next one. The same thing will happen again Friday 9 August 2013 – be there or watch more rubbish on the tele.
