MSCC Fun Night

MSCC Fun Night

1953 Connaught at Forrestburn
A contribution from a supportive member
by Alastair Reynolds

I was asked to write a piece for the web about our fun night on the 13th June from a different perspective from the previous contributions. I am what can be referred to as a fair weather member. I mostly appear on Fun and Track Nights however I have marshalled and helped out at work parties on occasion. I totally support the aims of the club. From my perspective you have a policy of welcoming all and keep your annual charges low to attract new members and keep them coming. The reception I get every time I do attend is most friendly. I plan to participate more in future, possibly in my newly constructed Sylva J15. I may even get a competition licence soon.

I particularly value the Fun Nights at Forrestburn as you have a track that is quite marvellous to drive and your Fun nights are only £25. My night did not start well as I took my glasses off to put my helmet on and forgot to replace them. I drove round to the start line thinking the wind visor was particularly dirty that night and lifted it to find I had no glasses on. I had left them at the car park dropping off the car as I left. Fortunately the glasses were still in one piece.

After a couple of runs my car failed to start after I had switched it off so it would not exceed 70 degrees (the sweet spot for my engine). I had a few nervous minutes at the start line while I tracked down the fault (a fuse was trying to exit the fuel relay cct). I have a new trailer but left it behind as I only intended to do few laps (I had an IVA at 8am the next day for the Sylva).

The highlight for me was the sight of that Connaught 1953 racer. It was a marvellous car and created a real presence in the paddock. It has some sort of preselect gearbox and fuel injected 2L engine – a development of a Lea Francis design (I was told by one of the more knowledgeable members).

Some notes on the rest of the crew:

The chap with the Connaught ‘A’ Series, was Robert Bremner who joined on Thursday night and also campaigns a Cobra. The Connaught was not playing for part of the night as it had battery issues and as it runs on methanol seemed a little temperamental possibly due to old fuel.

Chris Kuhn in a Mitsubishi Lancer having his usual ball and in a four wheel drive car, managing to exit the top hair pin sideways was an impressive sight.

Drivers took turns at marshalling (only fair) with the exception of Donald and Trish McDonald who were at the start all evening. Well done for that contribution.
Other cars :- Audi S3, Citroen Saxo, Midget, 205, Douglas Anderson in his Austin Seven Special, Colin Rushford with his Porsche 944, Scott Clements with Clan Crusader, fiat X 1/9, MX5 x 3, Fiesta XR2 and my yellow Westfield SEIW 2L Duratec.

The weather stayed dry, some said it was cold. I have been at that venue when it was Baltic and anything better than that is a real bonus.

Footnote:
As a footnote to Alastair’s great post, on behalf of the Club, thanks to everyone who has made it possible for us to get back on our feet after the fire and who contributed in so many different ways – be it physical effort, materials, equipment or money to replace items destroyed and put things back in order. Your help is much appreciated.

Last Fun Day of the year

Last Fun Day of the year

cockpit
Hi Members – I just wanted to remind you that this Sunday the 23 September is the last fun day of 2012 so come along and enjoy yourselves at Forrestburn.

The gate will be open at 12 o’clock and the track open at 12.30 until 3.00.  Please remember that helmets must be worn so anyone with a spare helmet please bring it along, this will be appreciated.   The cost is £25 per car.  We would also appreciate anyone who would be willing to marshal as we need a minimum of three.  For anyone wishing to cook their lunch on site, the barbecue will be available.

So lets hope for a dry day and some fun – if you have any questions please get in touch with me or leave a message here or on our Facebook page.

Cheers,

Shonah

A busy period coming up…

A busy period coming up…

The paddock at Forrestburn - August 2011
The MSCC calendar has a busy period coming up and we’d love to see you at some or all of these events.  Thursday 14 June is our next Fun Night at Forrestburn, entry forms are available here.

Thursday 14 June is also the closing date for hillclimb entries!  Please note that no late entries will be accepted – it messes up the organisation of the event, the printing of entry lists and the results system so please be considerate and get your entry in on time.  The hillclimb itself will be on Saturday and Sunday 23 and 24 June.   We are always on the lookout for marshals for the hillclimb, so if you can come along and help please let us know.  Entry Forms are available here.

On Monday 2 July 2012, we will have another track night at Knockhill.  The last evening was dry and bright, if a little quiet so we would like to see more cars out this time round, as this is the only way we can ensure these evenings stay part of our calendar.  Registration forms are available here.

Regards,
Barry Holmes

4 June 2011 – Work Party and International Autoecosse

4 June 2011 – Work Party and International Autoecosse

Forrestburn marshals sweeping up
This Saturday, 4th June, there will be a work party at Forrestburn from 10:30am with the Caledonian Classic and Historic Motorsport Club International Autoecosse passing through at about 3:30pm. There is an impressive entry list of cars so what about combining work and spectating in beautiful surroundings with good company?

The work party will be the the usual affair with a BBQ available for use at lunch time.  When the Autoecosse passes through the CCHMC are looking for marshals to help with car arrival and man the hill whilst they drive up.  There will be approximately 50 cars, though we expect some of the first cars will arrive beforehand.

Thursday 9th June is the next fun night at Forrestburn.  Forms are available here and those who sign on to the work party on 4th June, in the morning, will get half price entry to the fun night.

Tuesday 21st June is the next club track night at Knockhill.  Last week’s track night went well despite the weather, with those who attended being treated to a full two hours of on track action with just a few minutes of stoppage.

Next up is the hillclimb on Saturday and Sunday 25th and 26th June.  Entries close on Friday 10th June and we urge everyone to get their entries in on time to save disappointment.  There will be the a hill setup work party on Friday 24th June.  We realise this is a school day for most, however if you can spare the time it would really help as this is a tough task to get completed in time and the regulars would very much appreciate your assistance.

We are also seeking marshals for both days of the hillclimb.  If you want to get close to the action, get a free lunch and score club championship points, please get in touch.  Overalls and waterproofs are provided on a first come first served basis and if you’ve not been to Forrestburn of late, we have added some weather protection to the marshals posts.

We look forward to seeing you at some, or even all of these events.
