The Flying Scotsman Rally at Forrestburn

The 5th Flying Scotsman Rally visited Forrestburn on Sunday 21 April 2013. Nearly 100 cars made the trip north and the first of these arrivals are shown in the photograph above. The Flying Scotsman entry list brought together a fine collection of pre-war cars. There were many Bentleys and Lagondas as well as more interesting cars like the 1932 Alfa Romeo 8C Zagato and the 1938 Chevrolet Fangio Coupe.

Forrestburn was the last test before the crews finished at Gleneagles for a well deserved rest after battling the elements for three days from London with tests and regularity sections. Scottish driver Sue Shoosmith with Navigator Trina Harley driving Bentley YF15 finished 2nd overall.

Monklands Sporting Car Club had an excellent turnout of marshalls for the day which was enjoyed by all. Even the weather was bright and sunny.

An Austin 7 lining up for a sub 60 second run at the hill - previous best 91 seconds!
This is an article from the MSCC Newsletter which members receive on a quarterly basis. It was written by John Miller who is the Editor.
Just when you thought your car wasn’t up to the big speed event of a hill climb along comes an unlikely candidate in the shape of Brian Hopkins! As if that wasn’t enough he casually queued up with the other competitors in his 1929 Austin 7 to have a bash at the hill.

Now you’re thinking if he can do it in that then I’m going to do it too. We always like to encourage a varied grid so what’s stopping you having a go in 2013. If its not a hill climb then try an autotest or the balancing art of traction and torque in a trial. Whatever you choose make sure you come along and see what’s going on, get involved by marshalling or helping out at the work parties.

Join MSCC and get articles like this in our quarterly newsletter – and much more.

13 May Autotest Cancelled

13 May Autotest Cancelled

rain_ user doodlepress / creative commonsDear Members,

Unfortunately the autotest scheduled for this weekend is cancelled.

We inspected the field over the weekend and due to the unseasonable weather (although for those of you who have marshalled at Forrestburn you’ll probably think the weather is just normal !) the field is unusable.

Please accept our apologies for the cancellation but sometimes these things are just outwith our control.

The next event is the tracknight on Tuesday 15th May – you will have received details already but forms can also be downloaded from the website and sent to Barry to book your space in advance.
