Because of its proximity to Hallowe’en, the November Trial now has a tradition of being ‘silly hat day’ and to the credit of competitors, officials and marshals alike, many had gone to great lengths to appear in suitable headgear, the more outrageous the better. Nita Ewart scooped the prize for wearing a cross between a punk hairstyle and what appeared to be some sort of ancient device of torture. Jonathan clearly has contacts in high places as the Forrestburn weather was more July than November. If this is global warming, bring it on!
Austin 7s appear to be breeding successfully this year and we were treated to a third version in the hands of Jock McKinnon. There were also some welcome new faces and different cars in attendance and everyone appeared to be enjoying themselves, although one or two of the ‘old hands’ got trapped into following the tyre tracks from the last trial rather than the prescribed route – no names, no pack drill. The gate marker posts and canes also seemed to hold an unhealthy attraction for several competitors to the detriment of their scores.
As always, thanks are due to all marshals, officials, ‘opener-uppers’ and to Shonah for lunch. And thanks to Donald MacDonald for the text and the pics.
As some of the more attentive and competitive members of the Club will be aware, there is a Production Car Trial scheduled for Sunday 1 November 2015. There will be fighting on the slopes of Forrestburn on that day. It is the last competitive event of the season and we hope there will be keen interest in the actual trial as well as the inevitable gossip, tittle-tattle and Shonah’s Barbie.
David Baxter put together this collection of fine images from the Trial held on 4 October and I’m sure these will fire up your enthusiasm. Get to it – you can download the Entry Form and Regs here – apply now or lose out big style.
Update: We need to get a minimum of 12 entries by Tuesday 27 October for the event to take place – Jonathan currently has 5. If it is easier for you, please email me your completed entry form to Jonathan to reserve your place and pay on the day. His email address is in the Regs.
Thanks again to all the marshals who made the last event such a success. We hope to welcome you back the Sunday after next.
Sunday, 4 October 2015 saw the first trial under the stewardship of Jonathan Neale and it was a very successful day. The weather was extremely kind and once the first few cars had made their runs, people and marker posts could actually be seen in the long grass. Grip was plentiful and penalties were low, although one or two entrants were a little rusty and had difficulty finding the correct route. The new order continued with the appearance of Fraser Ewart’s Austin Seven based trials special which successfully toppled the previously all-conquering trials special of Brian Hopkins. Jamie Gibbon proved a long-held theory that a 1500 Midget would make a very useful trials car by winning Class 3. Scott Clements for once managed to control his unbridled enthusiasm for “maximum attack” and cruised the Imp to first in class 5 and first overall in both the Scratch and Handicap results. Helen Kirkness took the Ladies award as the other two lady competitors suffered “directional indiscretions.” Thanks go to Jonathan for the organisation, the stalwart marshals who at least didn’t have to contend with normal Forrestburn weather, Shonah for the lunchtime culinary delights and to the Inch family for opening and closing duties. The competition will continue on November 1st.
Here is the first of a collection of images taken by photographer Chris Nicholson who covered this final event of the Track Day and Track Night series for 2015. Thanks very much for this Chris.
Just a gentle reminder that the Regulations and Entry Form for the first of the Production Car Trials on Sunday 4 October 2015 are now available. If you fancy yourself as a bit of a driver you should give this a try.
Hello everyone – just to let you know and/or remind you of the times for our event on Sunday. The gates will be open at 11.30 with hopefully everything getting under way at 12.00 noon. (This is not an evening event like the others).
Please remember that helmets must be worn and long sleeves are a must. Also drivers must be MSCC members and have registered with me regarding your entry.
Looking forward to seeing you on Sunday – as usual tea and coffee will be on tap.
Photographer David Baxter was down at the start line and hairpin for the double header event at the end of August. Here are some of his great shots of the event.
