The Shovel Sisters

Woke up this morning to a grim day – where had the sun gone? Up at 6.00 to get the food organised for Forrestburn. I don’t know if I had put a curse on the day by sending out an email telling people to put their shorts and sun block on! Got to Forrestburn and there certainly was no need for any protection, other than thermals. It was freezing. Got opened up and wondered how many of the masses would arrive – who was I kidding? We had a total of 13 people who all worked hard to spread tons, yes tons and tons of gravel on the new paths created to make access to the car park and top of the hill, easier.

Tonnes of gravel

The marshal posts were strimmed and weedkiller spread over the paddock. We got a great deal of work done including totally reorganising all the signage, cleaning the start finish banners and reorganising the portacabins. As the day progressed the weather improved and when we stopped for lunch it was actually a lovely day. Then back to work.

I think that the ‘Dependables’ should be named as there is something that I’m now sure you will spot when you read the names. Gordon McRobbie, Brian and Marion Hopkins, Trish and Donald MacDonald, Simon Scott, Derek House, Jonathan Neale, Colin McAteer, Alistair Reynolds, Iain Paterson, Jamie Gibbon and me. Well did you spot the common factor? Answer: with the exception of Jonathan and Colin we are all from the more mature end of the membership. So the question is where were all the rest of you? I didn’t expect the full membership to arrive as lots of you live too far away and some would have previous commitments but come on, you want a hill climb? Well contribute to the preparation! These guys got nothing for their hard work other than my attempt at a barbecue lunch but in my defence, I must say I have not poisoned anyone yet.

So people next time how about a couple of hours, remember many hands make light work.
