MSCC Production Car Trial: 26 February 2017
For only the second time in recent memory today’s trial was abandoned at lunchtime due to the weather conditions. Conditions were so bad that many competitors were struggling to leave the start lines and on Hill 1, only one managed to make it past the nine penalties marker.

It was particularly unfortunate since the trial had attracted an entry of four vintage Austin Sevens, some of which were double driven. For a change, there was considerable support for Class 1 for FWD saloons and some old and new faces appeared in classes 3 and 5. The results will be declared based on the morning runs later in the week.

PS – the results are now available here or here.

We were fortunate to get this set of images from Frazer Prentice who must have got a real soaking – thanks Frazer.

MSCC PCT Trial November 2016

Hello all

Time to start another season’s motorsport (“what already?”, I hear you ask). Yes, MSCC’s season is longer than the F1 world championship by a long chalk (although sadly we don’t hold a round in Brazil). But hey, the sun always shines at Forrestburn so who needs Brazil.

The regs for the upcoming PCT to be held at Forrestburn on Sunday 26th February are available here and here. Normal rules apply:

  1. Entries accepted by email with payment on the day at the event.
  2. You can post your entry if you so wish – address on the entry form.
  3. I do need a minimum number of entries to be able to run the event so please let me know if you are going to attend.
  4. I’ll update you all on entry numbers nearer the time.

As always, marshals are warmly welcomed – it was good to see many of you at the AGM last weekend. Just drop me a line if you can come along.

Just Googled Brazil to see if they have got some decent hills for a PCT. Rio looks good…

Thanks – Jonathan Neale

Due to the proximity to Halloween, “Silly Hat Day” at the November trial has become a tradition and exotic examples of the hat-makers art were on full display.

A small but determined entry tackled the 16 hills, bathed in strong, winter sunshine. Unfortunately for the marshals, the same sunshine was doing little to raise the arctic temperatures they were experiencing.

In spite of the dry conditions, the hills were proving to be challenging and the scores for the morning runs reflected this. By the afternoon, most entrants were showing an improvement with some close battles in the classes.

The Provisional winners are –
Class 1 Barry Holmes, BMW Mini
Class 3 Brian Hopkins, Austin 7 Special
Class 4, Colin MacKay, Morgan +8.

The prize for the most imaginative hat went to Shonah Gibbon.

At the end of the event, a minute’s silence was observed in memory of Bill Henderson, a great friend of Monklands Sporting Car Club.

20161009 Production Car Trial at Forrestburn

Forrestburn can be a lovely place – especially if the weather is good and today was no exception. One of the late season trials took place there today and photographer Chris Nicholson was there to gather the evidence. This is his take on the events and atmosphere of the day. Thanks Chris!

But then … Donald and Trish MacDonald sent a bit of commentary on the day and more images. Here’s the text:

Jonathan worked his magic again and we had our fifth consecutive trial in great weather. There was a large entry and the dry ground made for some low scores. Some of the “experts” were obviously a bit rusty as some silly mistakes cost them penalties, but everyone seemed to have fun. The final results will not be available for a week but the provisional class winners were Class 1 Candice in a Ford KA, Class 3 Jamie Gibbon in his MG Midget, Class 4 Brian Hopkins in the Austin 7 Special and Class 5 Geoff Burns in a Mazda MX5. Here are some of Donald and Trish’s images:

And then … George Dow came along with more:

Jock’s Run 2016

Jock’s Run 2016

jocks-run-poster 2016Following the success of the first Jock’s Run, and by popular demand, East Ayrshire Car Club, in association with Monklands Sporting Car Club, will hold a classic car run from Forrestburn Hillclimb to Kames Motorsport Complex with some new features for 2016. At Forrestburn there will be an opportunity to compete in a Production Car Autotest, and a ‘run up’ the famous hillclimb. Please note that the ‘run up’ the hillclimb is strictly non-competitive. There will also be optional Production Car Autotests at Kames Motorsport Complex. During the classic car run from Forrestburn to Kames there will be an ‘observation section’ for the navigators.
Jocks Run 2016
Jock’s Run will be held on Sunday 22 May 2016. Signing on will be at Harthill Services, M8 Westbound (between junctions 4a and 5 of M8 westbound) from 9.00 am. Prizegiving, with a snack meal for the crew of two, will be at the Finish at Kames Motorsport Complex.

The event will be held under the general rules of the MSA as a Touring Assembly, these Supplementary Regulations and any written instructions that the organising club may issue for the event. An MSA Touring Assembly Permit and a Production Car Autotest Permit have been applied for.

The event is open to all car enthusiasts. Those wishing to take part in the Production Car Autotests are required to be a member of the organising club (East Ayrshire Car Club) or one of the invited clubs. The invited clubs are Monklands Sporting Car Club and CCHMSC. Details of club membership and membership number should be given at the appropriate place on the entry form which is available to download together with the Regs.

We encourage all club members to enter or assist with marshalling.

Another balmy ‘summer’s’ day at Forrestburn with the usual suspects present plus some very welcome newcomers. Dry conditions meant low scores and tight competition in the various classes. Results will follow and be typically incomprehensible as usual!

Meanwhile here is a great gallery of images from Donald MacDonald. Oh and the results are now available here.
