Forrestburn Paddock - Sunday 17 August 2014Brrrrrrrr…..that was cold! Forrestburn continued to confound traditional ideas of summer with a seriously chilly day and a positively arctic wind. The paddock was bad enough but for the marshals in their exposed positions round the track it was grim though the sun shone occasionally. The Results Bunker was like a fridge but we managed to produce the results which are available here.

The day was mercifully free of technical issues and we got off to a good start promptly at 10:00. An early lunch followed at around 12:00 after two practice rounds. The Clerk of the Course took the decision to forfeit a third practice run in order to be fairly sure of getting two timed runs before the rains were due at 15:00.

A new Class Record of 51.91 seconds was set in Class A1 by David Reid in a strange afternoon session in which there were 18 retirements and/or unscheduled trips into the landscape by competitors. Best Time of Day and Fastest Racing Car was set by Leslie Mutch after a close battle with George Coghill Jnr. Fastest Road Car was Craig Nicol’s Caterham Super 7 in Class A6, Fastest Modified Car was Stuart Dow in his Caterham Superlight and Fastest Thoroughbred was Simon Scott (again) in his Morgan 8.

Chairman of MSCC Gordon McRobbie transferred out of the Thoroughbred Classes to run a Mazda MX-5 in Class A9 – a canny strategy that saw him rise in the standings from 74th to 64th place overall. Well done Gordon!

Thanks to everyone who made this a successful event – competitors, marshals, club members and spectators alike. Enjoy the rest of the season and remember that MSCC have more events this year running through to the beginning of November – have a look at our programme.
