Production Car Trials or PCTs are probably the most fun days and biggest laugh events we run at Forrestburn.

What is a Production Car Trial (PCT)?

Not everyone knows what a Production Car Trial is, who can take part, or what cars they are designed for — so here’s a simple overview.

A Production Car Trial (PCT) is a friendly, low-speed motorsport event designed for standard, road-going, two-wheel-drive cars, old or new. If you can drive it on the road, chances are it’s suitable.

Who can take part?

  • Drivers aged 14 and over

  • You must be a member of Monklands Sporting Car Club

  • There is a small entry fee per driver for a full day of fun

Where are PCTs held?

Our PCTs take place at Forrestburn Hill Climb Circuit, run by Monklands Sporting Car Club.
More information can be found at www.mscc.org.uk.

What is the course like?

The courses are laid out on off-road grassy slopes and are ideal for cars with normal road clearance and standard road tyres.
Your car may get a bit muddy by the end of the day — but that’s usually the worst of it!

Each course consists of ten sets of gates. Drivers aim to pass through as many gates as possible without stopping between them.

  • Points are awarded for the number of gates successfully completed

  • There are no reverse gates

  • It’s all about steady forward progress, usually at no more than walking pace

Is it a race?

No — and that’s what makes PCTs so accessible.

Because it’s not a speed event, PCTs are perfect for:

  • Young drivers developing car control

  • Drivers new to motorsport

  • Anyone wanting to improve their skills in a relaxed environment

Each driver can have a passenger, who can help by directing them to the next gate.

If a young driver has already taken part in our Young Driver Development events, a PCT is the ideal next step.

What about spectators and marshals?

PCTs are great to watch, even without high speeds. Spectators can get nice and close to the action and see how different drivers tackle the same course — a slightly different line here, a touch more or less throttle there.

The whole event is very informal and friendly. Drivers and passengers chat, watch others take on the courses, and share tips.

Marshalling is fun too — you’re right next to the cars and get to chat with every driver after their run.
As always at Forrestburn… wrap up warm!

In a nutshell
