Le Jog at the Rest and Be Thankful

Le Jog at the Rest and Be Thankful

George Dow managed to take some images of Le Jog at the Rest and Be Thankful – here is the story.
Alfa Romeo at Rest and Be Thankful

As the 25th anniversary of the HERO Le Jog Lands End to John O`Groats rally was passing through our part of the country, I thought there might be a chance of grabbing a few pics of the entrants who had been through some exciting weather before they would reach the test at
Lomond Shores. As their next scheduled stop was for lunch at Inverbeg, it seemed apparent that the next leg might be dodging cows on the single track road through Glen Douglas. After the glen, the next test section was on the old track up to the Rest and Be Thankful.

Glen Douglas is a fantastic setting for any picture, but I decided that for a rally there could be no better place to grab a pic or two than on the old road up to the Rest. Unfortunately, the organisers were too nervous about having anybody anywhere on the route. That was a bit OTT given the many stops in the section and strategic cones to inhibit any of the competitors from being overly enthusiastic on the more challenging sections of the road, so no danger whatsoever from folk well used to attending such events.

I ended up in the car park at the Rest, but with a long enough lens to grab some pics that hopefully provide some interest. Those hardy folk in the Bentley`s deserve a gold medal just for having the courage to take part over such a distance at this time of year. It was great to see and hear the mix of marques having a go. The guys in the Mini looked serious with their headphone intercom kit some a tad quicker than others, Great to see Porsche and Alfa Romeos and as ever the Saab and Volvo entrants. The weather was kind too, for a change.

All in all, it was a good day out. If you check the HERO website, you can pick up more info, pics and videos on the event.

MSCC-PCT-November-2019

The results of the PCT are now online here or here. My thanks go as always to the marshals for standing out in the rain and pushing cars stuck in the mud. My thanks also to Marion and Derek for keeping us fed and watered. That’s it for 2019 so have a good festive season and get ready to rumble next year.

Thanks to the efforts of John Crae and George Dow, we have some images from the Production Car Trial held at Forrestburn on Sunday 3 November 2019.

Forrestburn Gymkhana Event – 23 October 2019

mscc-gymkhana-2019

Following on from the successful Gymkhana event held last November at Forrestburn Speed Hill Climb Track in collaboration with Gillian Sefton from Scottish Motor Sports (SMS) we ran another Gymkhana event on 23 October 2019.  The event was primarily for college students in a similar format to last year but with fewer tests.  A free lunch was provided and as much tea and coffee as was needed. This event is part of the Club’s efforts to encouraging youngsters to our sport.

John Crae was there to record the event – here is his photo-gallery

A great big thanks to all the marshalls who had to endure some pretty awful weather today, allowing us to take to the hills for the first of the end of season Production Car Trials today. Also to Marion for taking on the scoring, etc and Shonah feeding us all with her barbecue skills.

Looking forward to seeing you all on November 3rd for our final season event. Here is a photo-set courtesy of George Dow.

Here’s a really standout set of pics from the Sunday event at Forrestburn. We got these from photographer William Stuart and, as always, we are very grateful and pleased to be able to publish them here. The cars and the landscape really shine in the brilliant weather.

This had to be the best ever weather on a hillclimb weekend at Forrestburn. Warm and sunny with temperatures in the high 20s was an ideal setting for many new class records, general good humour and a lot of sitting around gossiping. What’s not to like?

The Saturday event saw two new class records. David Reid in his Subaru Impreza beat the time set by Jac Koumides of 49.85 on 26 June 2010 in Class A3, setting a new class record of 49.21 seconds. Jim Campbell in a Crossle 12F beat Andrew Paterson’s record in the H99 Class setting a new record of 49.80 seconds. Garry Dickson set BTD of 43.04 seconds and Paul Rhodes set 2nd BTD at 44.37. The Saturday results are available here.

Sunday saw four new class records. Derek Rothnie in a Renault Clio set 50.82 in Class A2 replacing the record set by Nigel Galvin of 50.92 in June 2015. Stuart Reid in Class B2 replaced his own record set on 23 June 2019 of 47.19 seconds with 46.97 seconds. In Class C3, Charlie Fraser set a new record of 46.11 seconds in a Spire GT3 Sovralimentato beating Graeme Bremner’s record of 46.13 seconds set in June 2014. In H99, Jim Campbell beat his own record from the previous day to set a new time of 49.53 seconds. Garry Dickson set BTD in his Force RGC at 40.59 seconds and Colin Graham set second BTD at 44.85 in his OMS PR. Sunday’s results are available here.
