The Highland Three Day Classic Tour is organised by Lancashire Automobile Club. The event is a Touring Assembly for interesting, sports and classic cars. They visited Forrestburn en route to Dunkeld for the start of the event.
The route is approximately 600 miles long and takes in “A” Roads and country road and is planned to pass through the most attractive scenery between Start and Finish venues. The route includes:
Day 0 22 September: Biggar, Forrestburn, Carron Valley, Loch Ern to Dunkeld Day 1 23 September: Dunkeld, Glen Shee, Alford, Nairn and Inverness Day 2 24 September: Inverness, Loch Shin, Loch Inver, Applecross and Inverness Day 3 25 September: Inverness Loch Ness, Loch Rannoch, Aberfeldy and Dunkeld
Bill Barr was there to record the interesting collection of cars on the hill climb track. Here is his photogallery.
Saturday 16 April saw a fabulous collection of cars at Forrestburn. The Flying Scotsman Rally departed from Belvoir Castle, an idyllic East Midlands location set in 16,000 acres of beautiful parkland. Three days of glorious Vintage motoring encompassed the Lincolnshire and Yorkshire Wolds then onwards to the North and beyond via Northumberland and some of Scotland’s finest Lochs and Glens, then Forrestburn before arriving at the Gleneagles Hotel.
Here is a photo-shoot from Chris Nicholson who captured the event and provided us with these great images.
Following the success of the first Jock’s Run, and by popular demand, East Ayrshire Car Club, in association with Monklands Sporting Car Club, will hold a classic car run from Forrestburn Hillclimb to Kames Motorsport Complex with some new features for 2016. At Forrestburn there will be an opportunity to compete in a Production Car Autotest, and a ‘run up’ the famous hillclimb. Please note that the ‘run up’ the hillclimb is strictly non-competitive. There will also be optional Production Car Autotests at Kames Motorsport Complex. During the classic car run from Forrestburn to Kames there will be an ‘observation section’ for the navigators. Jock’s Run will be held on Sunday 22 May 2016. Signing on will be at Harthill Services, M8 Westbound (between junctions 4a and 5 of M8 westbound) from 9.00 am. Prizegiving, with a snack meal for the crew of two, will be at the Finish at Kames Motorsport Complex.
The event will be held under the general rules of the MSA as a Touring Assembly, these Supplementary Regulations and any written instructions that the organising club may issue for the event. An MSA Touring Assembly Permit and a Production Car Autotest Permit have been applied for.
The event is open to all car enthusiasts. Those wishing to take part in the Production Car Autotests are required to be a member of the organising club (East Ayrshire Car Club) or one of the invited clubs. The invited clubs are Monklands Sporting Car Club and CCHMSC. Details of club membership and membership number should be given at the appropriate place on the entry form which is available to download together with the Regs.
We encourage all club members to enter or assist with marshalling.
Jock’s Run, a classic car run from Forrestburn hill climb to Kames Motorsport Complex held to mark Jock Millar’s remarkable career in motorsport took place on Sunday 24 May 2015. Here’s a small photogallery of the event – mostly at Forrestburn but two at Kames. Thanks to Trish MacDonald for the pics.
To mark Jock Millar’s remarkable career in motorsport – at 82 years young, he is the oldest person holding a race licence in Scotland – and his contribution to the fabric of motor sport venues, East Ayrshire Car Club, in association with Monklands Sporting Car Club and CCHMSC, will hold a classic car run from Forrestburn hillclimb to Kames Motorsport Complex. At Forrestburn there will be an opportunity to ‘run up’ the famous hillclimb. This is strictly non-competitive. There will also be optional production car autotests at Kames Motorsport Complex.

Sporting cars of any age
Other cars permitted at the discretion of the organisers
Cars constructed before 1980 will be given preference for entry.
Several Monklands members took part in the Heritage runs which supported the Paisley Abbey start of the 2015 Monte Carlo Historic Rally on 28 January 2015. Unfortunately the deteriorating weather caused some of the crews to “cut-and-run” rather than face the prospect of a cold night spent in a snowdrift. Period dress for the crews had been encouraged and Brian and Marion Hopkins won the award for the best dressed crew.
Apologies for the quality of some of the images – they are a bit crap but considering the weather and poor light it isn’t surprising. Well done to the photographers – when artistic is impossible, documentary is fine!
